This work was inspired by the Lewis Science Library at Princeton University. The specific aspects of that library which I touch on in this work are the long and wavy curves which abruptly run into jagged corners throughout the building. I loved the idea of expressing this musically through romantic melodies which suddenly seem to “run into” more jagged or stagnant material.
This work is dedicated to Connor Landers, who premiered the piece at Rice University in the Fall of 2022.
