Visiting the Walt Disney Organ

Yesterday, after seeing the LA Master Chorale perform an amazing program of Caroline Shaw, David Lang, and Brahms, one of my friends from Pomona set me up with Manuel Rosales, one of the men who helped to design and build the organ inside of Walt Disney Concert Hall. I, along with three of  my friends (one is even studying organ performance at Pomona), were allowed to try our hand at playing the organ.

Mr. Rosales concluded the tour with showing us around the insides of the organ. On the inside, there are several hundred signatures lining the walls of famous organists who have given recitals at the hall. Paul Jacobs, the organ professor at the Juilliard School who recently performed at Pomona College, has signed the inside of the organ 5 times! While I am just about certain I won’t be signing the inside of the organ any time soon, I did have the chance to sign the guest book with my two friends.
